ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The sounds in the gym can be sounds that many of us have not heard in a while.
What you need to know
- Gyms preparing for the influx of new customers
- Some people might want to get in shape in the New Year
- Gyms say they are ready to welcome back more safely
The pantry noises sound much more familiar, however.
Maybe you are down or have gained a few pounds this year, and it is your new year resolution to be in better shape.
The local gyms have you covered and ready to welcome you back safely despite the pandemic.
“Big influx of new members,” said Vicki Lemay, owner of Burg Fitness and Cycling, when asked what to expect in the new year.
Lemay says they have already added Zoom classes and training for clients, but they are also preparing to add more classes to increase membership while keeping the class size small.
“Given the anxiety and depression people have had since that pandemic in 2020 through 2021, the New Year is a time for them to say, ‘Hey, I’m going to get off this funk. Time to move, ”said Lemay.
Across the bridge in Tampa, Union Three Cycle and Yoga is also preparing for an influx of members.
“If anything, I think 2020 has given a lot of people perspective, and I think people have a new sense of what is important to them,” said Frank Nicholas, co-owner of Union Three.
First and foremost is personal health.
Union Three has added air cleaning systems with limited class sizes and offers online options for customers looking to get fit remotely.
“I think with this renewed sense of value, or sense of what people can do, I think they are really ready to turn the site into a new year in 2021,” said Nicholas.
Ain’t we all
