Street journey to the Florida Panhandle

Road trip to the Florida Panhandle

MARIANNA, Florida – The Florida Panhandle is the perfect weekend getaway filled with outdoor adventure.

Travel underground at Florida Caverns State Park to explore the otherworldly depths of North Florida’s limestone caves.

Enjoy mystifying stalagmites and illuminated rocks as you travel back in time to see formations that have grown slowly over millennia.

As you move between the large underground rooms, you can observe the many chisel marks made by civilian Conservation Corps staff from the 1930s.

These hardworking men enlarged the cave passages by hand so that visitors could stand upright during the tours.

When entering the caves, it takes a few moments to get used to the dimly lit surroundings and the year-round 65-degree temperature. The tour runs leisurely through a dozen cave rooms, where visitors learn about the cave’s history, early uses, and interesting geological formations.

Cave tours are available Friday through Monday and begin at 9:00 a.m. (local time) at the visitor center. Tour groups are limited to 10 visitors and face masks are required to ensure guest safety.
