Sun City Center Receives 5000 Doses of COVID-19 Vaccine as Tampa Bay's First State Mega-Pod Site

SUN CITY CENTER, Florida – In an effort to get the COVID-19 vaccine to seniors as quickly as possible, the state is now setting up pods in retirement homes to give the shot.

“We call these things pods. We have done it in other areas of the state. Basically, we bring vaccines to areas where there is a high concentration of the elderly,” said Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.

This week, 5,000 first doses of the COVID-19 vaccine will go into the arms of seniors who are members of the Sun City Center Association, a community of 9,000 seniors over 65 years of age.

Governor Ron DeSantis visited the Sun City Center grounds on Wednesday morning. He says Florida has vaccinated about 23 percent of its seniors to date.
