The Pitt Panthers were the first Power Five program to extend a three-star offensive against Leyton Nelson in the 2022 class, and its recruitment has grown rapidly since then.
After receiving the big news from Pitt on January 24, Nelson received offers from the state of Arizona, Boston College, Cincinnati, Florida, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisville, Miami, and the US Received State of Mississippi, Oregon, Penn State, Rutgers, South Carolina, South Florida, Tennessee, USC, Virginia, West Virginia.
Back in January, Nelson told Pittsburgh Sports Now, “I would like to make unofficial visits, possibly during the spring break and early summer. I would like to try to visit the coast and all the programs that have been offered to me. “
That obviously won’t be possible given the surge in Nelson’s recruitment as he now holds nearly 25 Division I offers. The Orlando, Florida native will have a hard time deciding on just five official visits, but his first was scheduled this morning.
Nelson told Pittsburgh Sports Now that he has decided to officially visit Pitt starting the week of June 3-5. This is the first weekend that the Panthers trainers receive visitors.
Choosing just five official visits isn’t an easy one, but the main reason Nelson chose Pitt was because they showed him that they really want him, and not just a gamer they offered a scholarship to.
“I really like the relationship I have with the entire coaching staff and everyone there,” said Nelson. “They all text me, like Coach Borbely and even Coach Narduzzi. Since they were offered, they have all texted me like once a week, if not more. They are going on me and that interest makes me feel good when I go up there to visit them and see them and everything up there to see if they are an opportunity for me later.
“I feel like they really want me and are so determined to get me. They even text my mother weekly and call my mother, which makes her feel good and comfortable when the time comes in the future for me to commit myself to making her comfortable with them. “
In addition to a commitment to recruit him, Nelson also cited offensive coach Dave Borbely and the relationship they have with the Pittsburgh Steelers as things that spark his interest in Pitt.
Aside from Pitt, Nelson told PSN that the other schools that are hardest to recruit right now are Oregon, Tennessee, Louisville, South Carolina, Central Florida, and Miami.
Here is a list of Pitt’s official visits that PSN was able to confirm.
