Hillsborough County ambassador family for March for Dimes shows hope for premature babies

The March of DimesWe want to give every preterm baby a fighting chance. This year’s March of Dimes ambassador family for Hillsborough CountyIt was a wild ride ofEver since Ashton was born into this world, they have felt many emotions.

The March of DimesWe want to give every preterm baby a fighting chance. This year’s March of Dimes ambassador family for Hillsborough CountyIt was a wild ride ofEver since Ashton was born into this world, they have felt many emotions.  

Ashton Smith was born during pandemic. However, his fight spirit and will to survive have led to his strong recovery.

Ashton’s mom Leah Smith stated that Ashton went into preterm labour last Mother’s Day and began experiencing contractions. “I didn’t think anything.” ofIt was worsened every day thereafter, as it turned to be.”
 

Ashton nears his first birthday familyLooking back at his hard entry into the world. 

“They did quite a few things.” ofLeah stated that she tried everything to stop the contractions, and finally my water broke. “The labor progressed and they couldn’t stop it.” He was then breached.”

She was admitted to the hospital.

He was totally folded in half with his butt. She said that he was completely folded in half with his butt. 

Leah is a former NICU nurse and knows all about the challenges of having a preemie. 

“I knew too many. She said that sometimes not knowing everything is scary but knowing everything can be scary as well.  

Ashton was only 29 weeks old and weighed 3 pounds, 4 ounces.

“I was just sitting in the O.R. I was wondering what was happening, and how he was doing. It’s so frightening. It was like my entire body was shaking. The anesthesia tech said, ‘Do you want something to like, ease your nerves?’ … It was just so overwhelming,” Lead explained. 

Ashton spent 51 days in NICU before being discharged. With the help of ofThe March of DimesAshton is doing well. 

“I mean, I can’t believe we are happier. Ashton Smith, Ashton Smith’s dad, said, “We have such a beautiful and healthy little boy here.” “We have a beautiful 5-year old. It’s been amazing. 

The Smith familyThey are grateful that they chose to be March For Babies’ 2022 Ambassador Family for Hillsborough County. 

“The March of DimesIt is very important to us. They were very helpful, you know. They have done so much forThe community as well as across the country. We just wanted to be supportive. ofScott agreed.
